Essay:

“What greater or better gift we can offer the public than to teach and instruct our youth.” (Cicero)

In our country the condition of literacy is very bad. People are mostly uneducated. Education is becoming very expensive. With every passing year we get a large number of educated but employed people. This discourages the youngsters who have to follow them. On account of this large-scale unemployment, children do not go to schools. They prefer to work at different places. This is not a healthy sign. These children are the future of Pakistan. They should be properly equipped with the facilities of education.

To educate all the people of our country the government has introduced  a scheme. The name of this scheme is ‘education for all’. If this scheme is sincerely implemented, it can bring many positive changes in society. It will attract children to schools. Whatever the field they adopt in future, education at elementary level is necessary for them.

Literacy rate in the developed countries in 100%. Even in most of the developing countries this percentage is high. In Pakistan it is low because of the foul practice of child-labour. If this practice is banned people will surely send their children to schools.

“The things taught in school and colleges are not an education, but the means of education.” (Emerson)

To encourage this scheme, the government should provide job opportunities to the educated people. This will attract people towards this programme. Otherwise people will think that it is useless to get education. At the primary level education should be compulsory.

Volunteer and non-government organizations should come forward to help the government in this regard. There should be a network of such organizations which must work in collaboration. The policy of division of work should be adopted. One organization should take the responsibilities of one type of assignment. Another organization should do different type of work.

This is a useful scheme and it must be implemented honestly. It will change the fate of the country within coming years. If education for all is made compulsory, after ten years at least half of the population will be matriculate. At far as simple literacy is concerned, it will surely become hundred.

“Education makes people easy to lead, but difficult to drive, easy to govern, impossible to enslave.” (Brougham)
