Images and Impressions (i) Autumn (T. E. Hulme) (ii) Fog (Carl Sandburg) (iii) Metro (Ezra Pound) Introduction
Actually the title "Images and Impressions" has been given to three different small poems written by three different poets that are normally known as imagist poets. These poets use exact words for expressing their descriptions. Here we find descriptions of Autumn, Fog and Metro: Paris (that is, the underground railway of Paris) by three important poets of the previous century.
Images and Impressions (i) Autumn (T. E. Hulme) (ii) Fog (Carl Sandburg) (iii) Metro (Ezra Pound) Summary
Autumn: There was a touch of coldness in the night. The poet was walking abroad. It was an autumn night. He saw the red-colored moon leaning over a hedge like a red-faced farmer. The stars looked wistfully at the earth with white faces like town-children. The poet did not stop but moved his head.
Fog: The fog comes stealthily over the city like a cat. It hovers over the city and sits on haunches like the cat looking at all the parts. Then it goes away as it has arrived.
Metro: Paris: The faces of the crowd seem as petals on a wet black branch when seen through a window of the underground railway in Paris (called Metro).
