ESSAY:

"Where there is unity, there is always victory". (Publicius Syrus)

National unity is vital for the survival and genuine progress of a nation. Without unity, a nation disintegrates and eventually loses its identity. No doubt, union is strength. Things and objects stay intact as long as they are united. The weakest objects derive strength from their unity. A particle of dust is nothing, but the same particle can uproot trees, dismantle huge buildings, dash big complexes, bash up huge cultural centers and smash anything when it is a part of a storm or a typhoon. The individual is like a drop of water. The nation is like an ocean. The drop of water draws its strength from the ocean. Similarly an individual draws his strength from the nation or community of which he is a member. Allama Iqbal has very wisely said, "The individual exists only in relation to the group; outside the group, he is nothing". The wave exists only inside the river; outside the river, it is nothing".

No struggle is successful without national unity. When there is a sense of cleavage among the individuals, the nation falls apart. National unity is an invaluable asset. It helps the nations to gain freedom, maintain honour, win victories, achieve progress and solve knotty problems. The creation of Pakistan is a clear proof of Muslim unity. Similarly, Ata Turk united his people and achieved unbelievable victory. On the other hand, Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun because his brothers were divided against him and within themselves too.

Our religion Islam is a religion of unity. It condemns disunity among the Muslim. The Holy Quran explains unity among the Muslims: "And hold fast the rope of Allah and not be divided".

National unity is the greatest need of our country. We cannot make Pakistan a strong and invincible fortress of Islam unless we are united. If we are united, ni enemy can harm us. Our disunity will always tempt the enemy. The present circumstances call for national unity all the more. Our enemies have hostile and huge monistic policies against us. They have flexed their muscles against us more than once in collusion with anti-Pakistan and anti-Islam forces. They are hell bent to destabilize Pakistan. Not atomic weapons nor conventional armed forces, nor foreign aid but our national unity alone can make them lick the dust. Therefore, we must be united.

United we are invincible, disunited we fall. It is crystal clear that nations without unity are soon wiped off. The current situation in Pakistan does not augur well. Sectarianism, fanaticism, provincialism, depotism, ethnicity, barbarism, narrow nationalism etc, are proving a stumbling block in the way of our social, economic, political, religious, national and international progress. Let us therefore in the name of Islam and Pakistan shun all our difference. Let us promote unity, love, sacrifice, brotherhood and friendship in our country. Let us present a united front against the forces of evil, disunity, exploitation oppression, injustice, hatred etc. We must remain united. It is utmost necessity for our survival and progress.

"Let there be work, bread, water and salt for all". (Nelson Mandela)
