Pakistani film industry took its rebirth after the inception of Pakistan in 1947. The history of the Pakistani film industry is spread over more than 60 years. It was the time when the people loved to visit the cinemas because television broadcasting had not yet been launched at that time. After independence, the Pakistani cinema was reborn. Despite the shortage of funds and facilities, the industry still managed to release memorable movies. It was the time when our film industry used to compete with Bollywood.
Films are an effective mode of not only visual feast but they also convey a healthy message to the audience and the viewers. Movies are the cultural part of every country because they mirror the major issues prevalent in the society.
The Golden Era of our film industry spanned from late 60's to early 80's. Many legends and stars of our industry were introduced. The colour films were also introduced in this era. They gave us movies which are still to date epics and true classics. The whole post production of the movies at that time was thorough professional. The music was melodious and memorable, story direction and dialogues were also exceptional. Right from technician, light man to the producer, all used to play their respective roles with great integrity and true professionalism. What a simple, decent era it was. The dresses and the hair-does were iconic. All the showbiz stars were beginning to feel as if the industry had achieved the desired milestone.
With the passage of time, the film industry began to face decline due to the entry of unprofessional and money-oriented people who brought an irreparable loss to the industry. The mid 80's saw the advent of the Punjabi culture infused into our film industry. The film- makers started to make violent gangster oriented movies. Our censorship policies also caused a major havoc. The policy was only towards the display of affection on the screen and considerably ignored the ever increasing violence in our movies. This era was followed by less violent. Blind imitation or copying Bollywood movies also deprecated the glory of our silver screen. Unethical topics and undue vulgarity further dragged the industry to the edge of extinction.
To revive the Pakistani film industry, all the artists, directors, producers, editors etc should take some serious steps. They should bring innovation in their films by learning the special techniques in the process of film making from filming to post-production. They should also keep a strict eye on the core-issues of the society while writing the script of the movie. Educated people should come forward to give support to our film industry.
In the recent time, there is a beacon of hope ignited by a trend-setting movie name "KhudakeLiye" followed by"Bol" with true social backdrop. These movies have compelled the public to visit cinemas once again. Now, some educated and professionally trained people are coming to the film industry. They are striving hard to put it back on the normal track. It is the only way to compete with the on-going trends in the film industry. We can reclaim our lost glory in the film industry if we begin to make movies on healthy topics with sound public message.
