Subject : The Harms of smoking / Smoking among students
Sir,
Through your esteemed column, I want to draw the attention of the public and the higher authorities towards the harms of smoking among the students. It is being observed that the use of cigarettes has been at its peak nowadays. Some of the girls of new age have also become a victim of this evil.
In spite of the pronouncement of the dangers and harms of smoking by the Ministry of Health, most of the men especially the youngsters are lavishly adopting the habit of smoking. Sometimes these smokers also become the victim of highly dangerous intoxication of heroin, opium, chers etc. These deeply and badly intoxicated persons unconsciously wander on the roads and cause of road accidents. To fulfill their need of intoxication, they also steal and snatch money bags, mobiles and costly things from the passersby. The deadly smoke of cigarettes causes cancer of lungs, stomach problem and heart attack. Smokers do not enjoy a prolong life. Life becomes burden to a smoker. Smoking makes him helpless and lonely if he remains without smoking.
I hope that through the publication of this letter, the higher authorities will look this serious problem. Moreover, the law enforcing agencies will ban on the illegal production and sale of the items of intoxication in the city. The electronic and print media should start a campaign against smoking. The entry of smokers should be banned at the public places. A heavy tax should be livid on cigarettes industry. The shopkeepers who sale illegally must be fined and punished severely.
