ESSAY:

Now-a-days, the world is under great threat of terrorism. No country is safe from its danger. Pakistan is one of those countries who have suffered the most at the hands of terrorists. Every other day there is a terrorist attack that kills innocent people. The need for proper security measurement at public place is very important.

"Let us not look in anger or forward in fear, but around in awareness". (James Thurner)

Following security measures are required to be taken at public places. Firstly, police and other law enforcing agencies must be stationed at high alert places. They should perform their duties with great responsibility and keep a strict eye on what is happening around them. They should control every situation that may constitute a threat or suspicious activity.

Secondly, it is also the duty of the people present at the public places to play their role in taking security measures. They should remember emergency phone numbers or police, fire brigade and rescue team. They should also know the location of the closest police stations, hospitals, schools etc.

Thirdly, the shopkeepers at the public places should also be alert to the situation around them. They should take any threatening or malicious telephone call, facsimile, or bomb threat seriously. If such a call is received, si record as much information as possible to assist in identification of the caller. Record the time of the call, the exact words, any distinguishing feature of the caller, and any background noise. Bomb threat information forms should be developed to assist common people around.

"The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability". (Henry Ford)

Fourthly, it is the foremost responsibility of the government to take all possible steps to make public places safe for the common people. Mosques, government offices, markets, educational institutions, clubs, parks and bus stations should have foolproof security arrangements. The secret agencies of the government should be very much cautious and ready to catch doubtful people. They must institute a robust vehicle inspection programme to include checking under the undercarriage of vehicles , under the hood, and in the trunk. Vehicle inspection training should be provided to security personnel. Explosive detection devices and different forces must be deployed at the important places to combat any difficult situation. Moreover, departments should have legal obligations to protect employees and visitors. It is necessary now to take all possible measures to keep public places safe from terrorists activities.

"In the world of complex threats, our security and leadership depends on all elements of our power- including strong and principled diplomacy". ( Obama)
