ESSAY:

Discipline is an integral part of any society for its progress and development. It means controlling oneself and controlling others for a purpose. It is training inward as well as outward, to act in accordance with principles decided by the society from time to time. Discipline can be observed in Nature as well. The movement of earth around the sun, changing seasons, rising and setting of the sun, the day following the night - all of them are based on some order.

Religion teaches us discipline in life. For example five prayers are offered on their specific times. Discipline can also be observed during Haj. Without discipline, life becomes distributed, irregular and disorderly.

The first and most important duty of a person is to discipline himself, if he wants to achieve success in life. Self-discipline is based on self-knowledge. It implies desire for self-improvement.

Discipline should be observed in public and private life as well. Processions, strikes and other disturbances have increased confusion and disorder. The people have become disrespectful towards the law. All these things have influenced the thinking and behaviour of our students.

In all our education institutions discipline is taught to regulate the lives of students. If the grip of discipline is loosened, all the efforts and hardwork of teachers go waste.

Discipline is necessary for the growth and development of any civilization. The laws of any society should be flexible so that they can be changed according to the demands of the society.

Purposeful politics is disciplined. Politicians and political parties should have discipline in their ranks. It is an inevitable condition in the army for the defence of any country. An undisciplined army may bring disgrace and defeat to the whole nation.

In business a set of rules and regulations is followed. The basic rights of the workers are honoured. In this way a business can grow and be successful.

To conclude, we may say that any work can be successful in a regular and methodical way only through discipline. So in all organisations religious, political, economic, education and social, rules and regulations must be observed for the sake of collective life. An undisciplined life is nothing but a farce. As pope has said:

" Honour and shame from no condition rise, Act well your part, there all the honour lies".
