ESSAY:

"You can't solve a problem on the same level that was created. You have to rise above it to the next level". (Albert Einstein)

The traffic problem in a big city has gone beyond proportion. The traffic jams in a big city are a daily occurrence. Traffic jams take place at any moment of day and night. The traffic creates hurdles in the easy flow of daily life. Traffic jams make the march of life slow and unsteady. Men and women going to their place of work are at once halted. They do not reach their offices in time. The children are delayed to reach the school.

Sometimes, the traffic is jammed for hours together. Cases have been reported where heart patients loss their lives in the traffic jams. The traffic jams also leave psychological effects on people's mind. The passengers delayed due to traffic jams feel frustrated and angry. They blow out their horns out of frustration. The sense of loss continuously hangs heavy on their head. The delayed performance of work or duty may bring to them untold misery or loss. Traffic jams in the modern age reflect an ugly mark on the beautiful face of the city.

There are many reasons for the creation of traffic jams in a big city. The first reason for the creation of traffic jams is the unchecked growth of population. The population in a big city is increasing rapidly. People from the village come to settle in the cities. Our villages do not offer them all the facilities and comforts of daily life. They come to the big cities in search of jobs and modern facilities of life. This thing has increased the bulk of traffic on road. Secondly, the roads of the cities are narrow and uneven. They cannot withstand the pressure of traffic. As a result of it, the flow of traffic is halted and causes traffic jam. Thirdly, our country is a democratic country. Different political parties and groups take out processions in order to protest against government or opposition. This also slows down the march of traffic. Fourthly, when a V.I.P or President or Prime Minister comes to the city, the road is fully banned for the flow of traffic from where the V.I.P has to pass. Moreover, our police is not efficient and dutiful. Many traffic jams can be set aside if the traffic wardens perform their duty with devotion and hard labour.

We can control the traffic jams by adopting some steps. Firstly, the rapid increase of population should be checked by taking different steps. Secondly, the villages should be urbanized. The migration of the villagers to the cities should be discouraged. Thirdly, the traffic police must be made alert and vigilant. Fourthly, the roads should be widened and put in a good shape. Lastly, some roads should not be reserved for the V.I.Ps. They should visit the big cities like an ordinary citizen.
