Subject : Regarding the rising tide of sectarian violence in the district

Sir,

The word sectarian comes from sect. A sect is a party or group within a religious body. In our country Muslims are divided into so many sects, like Sunni and Shias and sub-sects of Sipah-e-Sahaba, Sipah-e-Muhammadi, Barelvi, Deobandi and so on.

In our district, sectarian conflicts and clashes are seen every day on political, economic and social issues. Perhaps the greatest cause of the sectarian conflicts is the general illiteracy and backwardness of our people. The ignorant masses are misled by the sectarian parties into channels of hatred, conflicts and fighting through false propaganda. Though government has taken steps to maintain law and order and peace in our district yet long term peace, the causes of the disorder need to be removed.

It is the need of the hour to check and crush sectarianism, but better by reforms and changes in the economic and social system of the country than by naked force.

Yours faithfully,

X.Y.Z.
