Subject : The Dengue Epidemic / Dengue Fever and Prevention

Sir,

Through your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of higher authorities and common people about the serious problem of the Dengue Epidemic Fever. Nowadays, Dengue Fever is spread throughout in the country especially in Central Punjab. Many people have become victim of this severe disease.

Dengue Fever is an acute viral illness. Symptoms and signs of this illness are high fever at high temperature, headache, muscular and bone pain, vomiting, changes in sensation of taste and touch, bleeding from gums etc. In this fever the normal human clotting process becomes deranged, resulting in spontaneous bleeding in patients, leading in some cases to death.

Since neither cure nor vaccine exists for dengue fever. Prevention is the only option to control the human and economic cost of the epidemic. People must adopt precautionary measures against dengue. They must carry out anti- mosquito spray in their houses, offices and work places frequently, besides covering water storage pots and places, draining out the stagnant water, keeping houses clean and dry and draining water from swimming pools, fountains, waterfalls and room coolers when they are not in use.

It is hoped that official authorities will very soon root out this epidemic.
