Subject : The need to avoid publishing sensational news

Sir,

I want to seek the hospitality of your newspaper to call the attention of the government towards uncertainty among the people. Everyone knows that in the present circumstances, violence, crimes and injustice are at their height. The people are in great need of security, peace and justice. The publication of sensational or shocking news upsets them all the more.

The newspapers in the country surely need reader attention and their greater sale or circulation. Many young people and even serious adults like to read sensational news. But they need not read them so often. It is so because they at times begin thinking and acting unwisely on reading them. They can become emotional or violent in their talks and dealings with others.

It is the need of the hour to have a great coverage of constructive, positive and peaceful news by our newspapers. They should avoid reporting dacoities, murders, kidnappings, street fights and bombing and so on as far as possible. Only very important violent news connected with government and party policies may be published. News about social, economical, political and educational matters and foreign interference in our internal affairs should of course be published. Such news let the people know the true political and social situation.

Yours truly,

X.Y.Z.
