Subject : Corruption by WAPDA Meter-Readers / Lower Staff

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like my views to be communicated to the WAPDA administration and the ministry of power.

In my city, several people living in different areas have approached me to write to the press about their complaints against the WAPDA administration. These people have reported to me in my capacity as President of the Electricity Consumers Society in the city. The complaints approached the SDO and the Executive Engineer against the corruption of the lower staff in meter reading and repairers of the transformers on the roads. The meter readers offered to reduce their bills, if they bribed them. The other workers refused to repair the defective transformers without payment of money to them. The SDO and the Executive Engineer did not consider the applications against their workers. Instead they said that the complaints were false without making any injury.

I myself met the WAPDA SDO and the Executive Engineer of the area against whom the complaints had been raised. I handed copies of the complaints to these officers. But they refused to start any inquiry into the matter though I stressed this point.

Now it is the duty of the higher WAPDA officers to look into the serious matter of corruption on the part of the lower staff of the WAPDA office in ABC Area. They should also order re-issuance of the correct electricity bills to the complainants. Suitable action should be taken against the corrupt WAPDA lower staff. It is hoped that after publication of this letter, higher authorities will take strict action against culprits.

Yours truly,

X.Y.Z.
