Subject : Food Adulteration

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed paper, I want to draw the attention of the Health and Food Department to an important issue. Food adulteration is very common in our country. It is a great threat to the new generation.

Most of the shopkeepers adulterate the daily useable things like spices, pulses, milk and flour. The main cause is that pure food is in short supply. It is very costly also. The shopkeepers adulterate it in order to earn more money. Sometimes they create artificial shortage of food to adulterate it and earn more money. Some shopkeepers mix inferior and dangerous things in the daily eatable things. Nothing is safe at their hands. Even the medicines and drugs are adulterated. We do not get the basic necessities of life like flour, oil, salt, pepper and milk from impurity. Then merchants and traders. They have no fear that one day they will die and they have to be answerable hereafter. They must know that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have said " the adulterators are not one of us". But the adulterers never care the Islamic rules.

To reduce adulteration, I offer the following suggestions to check it. Firstly, food production should be increased through modern methods. For this purpose, we should have more and more farms and animals. Secondly, we should provide better facilities to transport food from one place to another. Thirdly, raids should be made on the shops of dishonest shopkeepers. Fourthly, the defaulters should be given exemplary punishments so that no one will have courage to adulterate anything in future.
